Jumplag - get rid of it? - Guild Wars Forums

When i enter a zone, and forexample go out of GW -> On a Internett site then back to GW, i sometimes get the so called Jumplag, which makes it pretty much impossible to do anything.

Any Way to remove this?

Only way i tought of was to pull out internett cable, to force a DC then rejoin, altough havent been tested any known ways to remove this shit? :P

if google doesnt have it, it doesnt exist as far as im concerned lol

but if u mean rubberbanding...
how bout u close internet explorer, turn off ur pr0n dls, and stop tryin to do both at the same time?

I just hit my show desktop button and then un-minimize GW. :P

Just minimizing GW, and bringing it back up should work though.

I thought he meant the lag that you get when you alt tab back to GW and it looks like everyone/thing is teleporting/jumping around. Like there's no walking animation it just jumps you to somewhere.

a.k.a. Everything that is moving moves systematically to 3 seconds ahead of where it would normally be, turns directions and keeps re-calculating. It happens to me alot, but usually only if hardware disconnects/reconnects.

Stop alt-tabbing? Nice joke, why suggest buying a better PC when you solve it by minimizing the game for 2 seconds? I'd like to also add that it happens on my 3.2GHz dual core, and 4GB ram, there's no reason to buy more.

If this is the case a simple "/jump" ALWAYS fixes it for me.

My PC is already at top performance, handling any game with ease, and I get jumplag at times when I alt-tab.

It's a problem with Guild Wars.

I have a laptop and using the quiet office battery mode. I have never experienced this ever before. I suggest playing in windowed mode since then clicking outside the window is sufficient...

It probably happens because you minimize it when its playing and when you re-open it the images that have moved are warped to the current position from when you minimized your client. If this happens during play time, its your computer or internet connection that's failing.

I am not clear on what 'jumplag' refers to, but I have 2 cases of different kinds of scenarios I have experienced:

1/ The one is the more common rubberbanding, which is latency / lag-related. These happen in that you think you are at a certain point, but then you all of a sudden see you are back 5-10 paces or what not, expecially when you navigate borders / corners that you think you might have passed. (bettel racers will know what I am talking about

) The same applies to bodyblocking in that your client / server connection has some timing / syncing issues and you get bodyblocked by monsters but to you on your screen it appears you are away and you go WTF when you see the dmg numbers rolling - farmers get this a lot.

2/ The other one which might be the 'jumplag' the poster is referring to is what I experienced just once so far in my 3 years of GW - Your char goes into a jumping fit, not up and down, but forward and then back to it's original spot. This happens every few seconds. I might have alt-tabbed, which is when it started.
It happened to me when I was in UW, very funny to jump back and from between the ghosts... anyway.. It happened continuously even after I re-logged. The only way I could fix it was to redo my dat file.

Had a few similair problems which tend to occur if I Alt-Tab between GW and web browser. When it happens one of two things can happen. if I click on an object (xunlai chest) I materialise in the middle of it and then a few secs later (the time it would take me to run there) back to normal. The other thing that happens is when out with heros/henchies. I run normally but heros/henches/monsters appear to be jumping around.

What I can gather is its a graphics card problem (it never occured on my old machine), and have played around with a number of things to try and stop it from happening... I seem to have had more luck using the GW minimise button (now and again I'll stick it in window mode before) than Alt-tab between programs.

As to cure it when it starts... zoning. occasionally Alt-Tab back and forth eventually works.

if anything, having a very fast pc will make this "jumplag" more likely. on my old computer, it will appear if i say alt-tabbed for around 5 minutes. on my new computer, it's around 10 seconds.

Happens to me aswell occassionally, extremelly annoying making the game unplayable, only ways out is rezoning to other area or killing gw.exe process and reconnecting.
Also, I found out that it's less likely to happen if I play in windowed mode, so if I'm likely to alt+tab alot I play GW in a window.

If your multi-tasking (generally not a good idea if you want top performance in a game anyway) and using a second application that uses bandwidth of course your going to lag. Maybe GW isn't as optimized as some other games but I wouldn't say it's a problem with the game. Nobody is going to code a game to take background tasks into account.

What browser are you using? If your using FireFox, disable all the periodic updates (addon updates, auto-updates) as they could be running and spike your connection. Check task manager and see what applications are using RAM. FireFox and IE are both pigs when it comes to this, don't be surprised if they use over 100MB of RAM even when your idle. IE is worse, if you leave it running I've seen it creep up to over 1/2 a gig.

I do this sometimes with mission guides but it doesn't usually effect my machine very much. If anything your connection has more to do with this then the specs of your PC.

I experience this as well, I find that it can be fixed by alt-tabbing away and back to GW again. Alternatively just play GW in a window rather than full screen.

Common reasons for alt-tabbing include "/wiki" and fiddling around on my second monitor.

It doesn't always happen to just 1 player, because sometimes the whole guild is complaining about it during a GvG.
